When shopping for your new piece of luggage you need to answer several questions before making a selection.  Do you want a duffel bag, a garment bag, a tote bag, or rollaboard? Do you want rolling luggage with a handle to ease the burden of carrying your luggage? Does the luggage need to meet airline carry-on restrictions?  How often will the luggage be used?

Lets address the last question first.  If you are a frequent traveler, you probably want a higher-priced piece of luggage with a good lifetime warranty and quality construction to withstand the rigors of frequent travel.  For the frequent traveler, luggage from Travelpro or Briggs-Riley would be an excellent choice.  If you only travel a few times a year, then luggage from Samsonite, Atlantic, Pathfinder, or Delsey might be a better choice as they offer quality luggage but at a slightly lower price.

Do you travel by air?  If so, if you want to carry your luggage on the plane with you, then you must comply with the airline carry-on restrictions.  Generally speaking, carry-on luggage must fit in the overhead compartment or under the seat.  Duffel bags and small (20" or less) rollaboards fit this requirement.  Also, checked luggage must be less than 62 linear inches (length plus, width plus height) and cannot exceed 70 pounds without paying a penalty.

The decision as to whether you want rolling luggage is pretty easy to answer.  Most rolling luggage also contain a carrying handle or strap and allow smaller pieces like tote bags, toiletry kits, and small duffels to be piggy-backed.

The last question to be answered is the duration of your trip.  Normally you can carry enough clothes in a 20" rollaboard or duffel for 2-3 days.  If you want to pack enough for a week or more, the large rollaboards or large rolling duffel bags can easily carry 5-6 days work of clothes.
